Amazon is paying people for their old Echo, Kindle and Tablet devices

Amazon is offering to pay people for their old Echo, Kindle and Tablet devices as part of a new scheme to help people upgrade.

The retail giant is offering gift cards when you send in your old devices in a little-known new section of the website. The deal works on any generation of the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Fire TV sticks, Kindles and Amazon Tablets.

The ‘Trade In’ section of Amazon says it is free to post a device and once received it will send gift cards and discounts to sellers once it arrives.

Amazon says it accepts any model or colour of device as long as it is made by Amazon.

It says: “We accept all variations of the model selected, in particular different colours or memory sizes. For example, if a customer selects a specific model for Fire HD 10, they can return any colour or memory size within that model. The gift card value and any additional promotion, if applicable, are the same for all variations of the same model.”

Amazon will also offer 20% off any new device when older devices are traded in. You can see the trade in options here.

The new devices you can trade in for include the fourth generation Amazon Echo, which is designed with a new spherical shape and an upgraded speaker system. Others include the new Fire Stick 3rd generation and the new Echo Show 10, which features an updated screen.

Amazon’s Show is the third device in its home devices following the Echo Dot and full-size Echo. The first two in the range are voice activated using Alexa and can play music, connect to smart devices and play news, audio books and other media.

The Show is the first Alexa device to add a screen as a rival to Facebook’s Portal device.
