Martin Lewis takes Good Morning Britain hot seat after Piers Morgan exit

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis is about to step into Piers Morgan’s shoes on Good Morning Britain, ITV has confirmed.

The consumer champion says he is “stoked” to be joining Susanna Reid as a presenter on the ITV show.

Martin, a long-standing guest contributor to GMB, will be in the hot seat from June 28, the Mirror reports.

It is understood his three-day stint fronting the show, until June 30, could be extended if it is well-received by viewers.

He said: “For 15 years I loved answering questions on Good Morning Britain.

“Now I’m stoked about getting the chance to ask them. While I hope to set the agenda on key consumer issues like scams and the financially excluded, I’m also up for the challenge of spreading my wings on all subjects.

“And when it comes to holding power to account, I always play fair with a straight bat, but that doesn’t stop me swinging it hard.”

Lewis, 48, founded his financial advice website in 2003 and now has his own money show on ITV.

GMB Editor Neil Thompson said he was a perfect fit for the show, calling him a “journalist and broadcaster at the top of his game”.

He said: “Trust has been and continues to be hugely important throughout the pandemic.

“And I can’t think of many people more trustworthy than Martin Lewis.”

Other stand-in hosts have included former BBC Breakfast star Bill Turnbull, Alastair Campbell, Richard Madeley and Adil Ray.

Morgan quit in March after efusing to apologise for on-air comments over the Duchess of Sussex’s Oprah revelations.

Good Morning Britain weekdays from 6am on ITV and on ITV Hub.
