New BBC quiz show The Tournament looking for Hull contestants

A new BBC quiz show is looking for Hull contestants – and offers the chance of winning a cash prize.

The Tournament, which will air on BBC One, will be a daytime show and is created by the producers of BBC’s smash hit QI.

QI has been one of the most highly rated programmes for years on BBC4 with a comedic twist, but this latest quiz is set to test competitors’ nerves.

Contestants of The Tournament will go head to head in a series of elimination quiz battles in order to be crowned champion.

A flyer for the show says it has an “exciting new knockout format”.

“We’re looking for fun, competitive and entertaining personalities who think they have what it takes to compete on a brand new BBC daytime quiz,” it says.

“This exciting new knockout format promises to be the ultimate test of strategy, general knowledge, and strong nerve under pressure, as you’ll go head-to-head in a series of elimination quiz battles to be crowned champion.

“If you think you might have what it takes, then please complete an application form and you could be in with a chance of winning a cash prize.

“Made by the producers of BBC smash hit QI.”

The last date for applications, who must be 18 or over, is currently Monday, July 12, although this could be extended, and auditions are due to take place in July and August, with filming planned for August 9 to August 20 if government restrictions allow. Producers are asking that only people available on those dates apply.

With current pandemic restrictions, it’s likely going to be online casting that could take place in groups or individually depending on restrictions and time scales.

The challengers will need to be able to get to Glasgow for the quiz itself and with some tough questions set to take place, they best be prepared for some tough competition.
