Trip of a lifetime awaits primary school class but they need help

A local charity supporting disadvantaged children is running a raffle to send a primary school class on a trip of a lifetime.

Businesses in the area have donated to the raffle with one of the top prizes including a huge Humber Street Hamper.

Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University’s ‘Making Dreams Raffle’ will use money raised to send a group of local children to London in an experience that would otherwise prove difficult to afford.

The charity aims to “broaden horizons and show kids what’s out there” through the trip to the capital.

During the pandemic, Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University ensured the children they support could access educational and mental health materials to enhance their wellbeing and home learning experiences.

Through this ambition, they have distributed 4,360 education and wellbeing packs to local primary school children.

A spokesperson for the registered charity told Hull Live about their plans to open doors for local children: “It’s an experience that they otherwise would never have, and let’s face it, they’ve never been as isolated as they are now!

“Our charity provides experiences that raise aspirations, build confidence and give children the chance to make their own dreams for the future.

“Lots of children say that they don’t really have a dream and we want to change this.”

The raffle has currently raised £1,000 to support the planned London visit, however, organisers are eager to reach the £2,000 mark ahead of the deadline.

The raffle closes on April 30 and winners will be notified on May 5. Tickets cost £1 each and there are discounts when purchasing in larger quantities.

The raffle page can be found here alongside the complete list of prizes.
